Caring for your Kalamkari products is generally trouble free but does need a bit of attention. All vegetable dyes are used in Kalamkari fabrics, hence it is important to air the fabric regularly. Due to the process involved in painting the fabric, there is a typical odour that emanates from it which fades after couple of dry cleans.There is a possibility of shrinkage from 5-7% for printed fabrics.
Laundering - Do not SOAK any Kalamkari fabric.
Block printed Kalamkari fabrics can be Machine washed with a mild detergent. Machine wash cold on gentle cycle.
Wash items with like colors together. In case of clothes, turn them inside out, especially dark colors.
Some colours may require to be washed separately the first few times.
Keep your zippers and hooks closed to avoid snagging other items in the wash.
Tumble dry low heat. Remove items promptly from dryer, preferably when still damp.
Hand painted Kalamkari fabrics are to be DRY CLEANED ONLY.
Ironing - Press with a warm to hot iron while damp. If the item has dried, use a spray bottle to dampen the fabric.

The luster and sheen varies in different types of silk and so does the texture and feel of it. Overall, silk is the strongest natural fiber, has a beautiful drape and is naturally crease resistant. The drawback of silk is that it loses its strength when wet and therefore needs to be treated gently during laundering.
